Why Choose Rodpak
Case Study :: Paslode Australia
Introduction
Paslode Australia has been a pallet customer in NSW for a number of years as well as being Rodpak’s national supplier of nails and air tools.
The business relationship is highly valued by both parties and is a ready example of a business partnership that has provided mutual benefits.
Background
Paslode manufactures fasteners and nailing equipment at Ingleburn and distributes all their products both domestically and internationally from this facility. Their production facility based at Ingleburn in NSW is serviced by Rodpak’s NSW operation at Wilberforce.
Rodpak is their sole supplier of wooden pallets and also provides Paslode ISPM15 certified pallets for export requirements into New Zealand.
Rodpak was originally providing to Paslode only domestic pallets. Paslode were manufacturing their own export pallets using internal resources during periods of reduced nail manufacturing activity.
Paslode had a number of different pallet footprints for both their domestic and international distribution needs due to the requirement to maximize the volume of packaged product on each pallet.
This situation created some issues in terms production inefficiencies and increased inventory holdings.
It was also recognised by Paslode that wooden pallet manufacturing was not a core competency and Paslode was experiencing elements of cost imposition with the continuance of this process.
Solution Development
Rodpak had always shown an interest to be involved in redesign of the pallets using its PDS software with the primary objective of reducing overall costs to Paslode whilst also providing a sound solution to their ISPM15 compliancy requirements. Rodpak representatives spent a significant time understanding Paslode’s specific requirements and provided a number of options to the pallet design for both domestic and international pallets in terms of board configuration and timber species.
Outcome
A number of PDS designs were trialed before a final decision was reached resulting in an overall reduction in the amount of pallet types used in both Paslode’s domestic and international manufacturing and distribution supply chain.
A change from the use of hardwood material to Pinus Radiata for Paslode’s international pallet pool also resulted in a number of cost out opportunities in terms of reduced capital and freight costs.
