Sustainability
Corporate sustainability – the green side to our business
As the saying goes – we live in interesting times. We have never been so aware and connected through the Internet, so able to travel and to learn and we are coming to the realisation both individually and organisationally that unless we act with awareness with our energy and the environment – business in the next generation and its stakeholders, are no longer a given.
There is a rising awareness amongst our community and a similar reaction in business that our current way of doing things is simply not sustainable. We all need to make more from less. Rodpak are in an excellent position to ensure its long term success through assisting business to move and store its product, more cheaply and effectively.
Like all corporate jargon, what does “sustainable” mean? In simple terms, we take it to mean that each business has the responsibility to take into account not only the commercial consequences of its decisions and actions but also the social and environmental impact. The reality is that it is often a daily balancing act of juggling short term reward with the medium to long term investment.
Decisions such as;
Choice of suppliers; the need to be conscious of the renewability of our forest resources.
Seeking energy efficiency in the production of raw materials.
The need to invest in technology that minimises use of energy and maximises our ability to measure and improve our productivity, particularly with wood waste.
The biodegradability and performance of the materials beyond their purposeful life.
The challenge to innovate such as transforming one major clients waste into the packaging solution for another client.
At Rodpak, sustainability and opportunity go hand in hand. Our goal is to provide business with “the perfect pallet”. By using our design technology we assist our clients to minimise waste, and maximise strength and durability. Through better design technology, waste management and better utilisation, we are able to assist other businesses reduce their cost of operation.
At Rodpak we believe in the sustainable use of timber for pallets because;
Timber pallets and containers are reusable, repairable, and recyclable and made from a renewable resource.
The waste produced in making pallets, and the material from pallets no longer able to be repaired is turned into smaller pallets or useful, marketable products such as playground mulch, animal bedding and wood stove pellets.
Wooden pallets comprise approximately 93% of the entire world pallet market because they are rigid, durable, functional, safe and cost effective.
|
Pallets and containers use derivative timber that is strong and durable, but has low cosmetic value. It would likely be discarded if it were not for timber packaging usage.
If a pallet does end up in a landfill, it is biodegradable. Less than 3% of the nearly one billion pallets manufactured and repaired ever end up in landfills.
